The CD soundtrack features the vocals of Jon Spencer on Spunk.The sleeve of the commercially released edition refers to a singles series featuring the Craig Finn, David Yow, Grant Hart and Jon Spencer tracks released as 7″ singles limited to 300 copies and are only available from apurgeofdissidents.com.

Although the first three were issued the planned Spunk (feat. Jon Spencer) 7″ was not released.

A Purge of Dissidents is a collaboration between fine-artist Dalek and Haze XXL (aka Tom Hazelmyer of Halo Of Flies/owner of the infamous 90’s underground noise label Amphetamine Reptile Records).

“In this groundbreaking collaboration between fine-artist Dalek and HAZE XXL of OX-OP, both players delve into new creative turf with a project that combines eye-bending animation and a soundtrack that is the antithesis of typical new age art-house fodder. Working as a team, this joint venture resulted in 10 animation pieces called A Purge of Dissidents.

Though the aPoD concept was intended for and has been shown in gallery installations worldwide, it has become much, much more culminating in a Book/DVD/CD package released through Ipecac Records. This is not simply a CD with extravagant packaging, nor a book with some bonus materials, but a project in which the sum is greater than the parts.

In no particular order. Order is neigh impossible. The material for this project originated in 3 original jam sessions. From these sessions the bottom tracks were yanked, pulled and torn apart. Then recast, re assembled, and rewritten over the course of year. In this flurry of activity, culling through the over 30 finished tracks to see which parts originated where became an undertaking that rivaled the writing, recording, mixing process itself. So I gave up. Here’s what I can remember.

I Realize some purists will want to know whom played exactly on what. Aside from randomly pulling various chunks from various jams, there was the added problem of musicians switching instruments in these jam sessions. None of which was documented. While working with some of the same material with Buzz Osbourne, we were confounded in attempts at figuring out who was playing what on the original tracks and this was 2 of the 4 folks present at the sessions!

The Vocal Sessions/Singles Series.
Realizing that 3 times the material needed for this project was actually finished, the idea arose to have a variety of musicians that were already involved, and a few pulled in at last minute to commandeer the some of the tracks and leave their mark on ‘em with vocals. These sessions were rounded up and released as a Series of hyper limited 7 inch records. Several tracks from these singles have been included here.
