Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – Pogon Jedinstvo, Zagreb, Croatia: Review / Interview

http://www.blairemagazine.com/2013/02/interview-jon-spencer.html BLAIRE: Something I’d like to touch on is the late Elliot Smith. Were you guys planning on releasing an album or collaborating in some way prior to his passing?

Jon: We did spend some time with Elliot at the end of his life and it was an interesting time. It was fraught with difficulty. I do think that had a lot to do with some difficulties Elliot himself was going through. We talked about collaborating in a lot of different ways. Elliot said at times that he wanted to do a whole record with us and there were some sessions we did in NYC and some sessions we did in LA in his studio. Unfortunately I think all the LA stuff is gone now. When Elliot passed his family took control of everything. Elliot was such a very talented person and also quite sadly a very troubled person. We were very lucky that we got to work with him and I think it’s just a shame that more wasn’t achieved.
