“I don’t remember Judah Bauer being that sexy the last time he played at Dick’s on Dick’s with The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. But maybe that’s the point of Twenty Miles – a chance for Bauer to kick out his own carnal knowledge of the blues. – Sarah Rowlands / Discorder”

Review from Discorder magazine (24 August 2002).

1986: Pussy Galore – 9:30 Club, Washington, DC, US

Photos: It is not known exactly what show these images are from but it is quite likely that they’re from one of these shows as they’re from the 9:30 Club and appear to show the Jon Spencer, Neil Hagerty, Julia Cafritz, John Hammill and Tom Rafferty line-up.

1993: The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – O’Cayz Corral, Madison, WI, US

1995: Moby – Into The Blue – released in the UK

Features the Jon Spencer ‘Into The Blues’ remix of Into The Blue.

“Moby released “INTO THE BLUE” taken from his critically acclaimed debut (studio) album “EVERYTHING IS WRONG” on June 19th 1995.

‘INTO THE BLUE” is a return to a more ethereal, elegiac sounding Moby and is electrified by the angelic, soaring vocals of former Hugo Largo singer Mimi Goese.

Fellow New Yorker and Moby mate Jon Spencer – he of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – contributes a radical blues-soaked remix. “I love it – it’s so bad, it’s good,” laughs Moby. Apparently instead of taking a fee Moby traded mixes with Spencer. “The mix I did for him is really strange; it’s like the outro to a bombastic Led Zeppelin record.”” – Mute.com
