The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – Beat.com.au: Interview

http://www.beat.com.au/music/jon-spencer-blues-explosion-0“First off, I honestly don’t even think that Jeb Bush will make it past nominations at this point,” Spencer says. “The Presidential election is still a ways off – I think there’s a lot more things happening right now that are worth me getting pissed off about, both as a musician and a citizen. There was a shooting just recently in Carolina – how many times are we, as Americans, going to have to go through this? There’s so many things wrong with this. We don’t need guns. We certainly don’t need automatic weapons. We don’t need a consensus on flying the Confederate flag. It’s been a very hard year. This is something of great concern to me.”

A new interview and feature on The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion has been published on Beat.com.au (and TheBrag.com).

And then there are songs about places that never existed except for within my own head, my heart or imagination.”

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion: Out on the street

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/music/news/article.cfm?c_id=264&objectid=11488675“In my head, this record was always going to be a dance party, and when it became clear that this dance party record was about New York City, one morning it hit me, that Freedom Tower, which is the nickname that was given to the tower replacing the World Trade Centre, would be a perfect name for this collection of songs, and the subtitle, No Wave Dance Party 2015 that refers to the musical movement in New York City, which started in the 70s. And while this is not an overt No Wave record, we’ve definitely been influenced by people such as James Chance or Lydia Lunch, it all goes with part of our big musical stew.”
