SLEEVE NOTES / INFORMATION:

“About Spencer Dickinson Jon meets North Mississippi Allstars

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion skillfully incorporates the sounds and styles of the blues, creating a unique sound with an explosive power unlike anything found in traditional blues.

Luther and Cody Dickinson, brothers from the band “North Mississippi Allstars,” play a crucial role in this project. Their father is Jim Dickinson (who has collaborated with the Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, Los Lobos, and more recently, Bob Dylan), a legendary figure in the white blues world whom JSBX, G-LOVE, and Beck all deeply admire. As can be inferred from Luther’s statement, “What we’re doing is exactly like Elvis doing ‘Hound Dog.’ It’s not pure blues. It’s rock and roll,” John Spencer and the Dickinson brothers hit it off almost fatedly, and this album, John’s first solo project, was born.

Incidentally, you should definitely check out “Shake Hands With Shorty” and “51 Phantom” by the North Mississippi All-Stars, centered around the Dickinson brothers. It’s immediately clear why John went ahead and recorded them on his own. There, you can see a wonderful crystallization of sound, a perfect blend of the invaluable genes left behind by their father, Jim Dickinson, and the mentality of the rock generation/21st century. This band, formed by two second-generation musicians who inherited the legendary blood of the white blues world and have been greatly influenced by the new generation of music, could be called the RISE of the blues world.

This collaboration with John Spencer, who recognized their potential, can be considered a fitting appetizer for JSBX’s highly anticipated 6th album. Will the main course harmonize with or contrast with the appetizer? In any case, let’s listen to this work and let our expectations soar.

By the way, this appetizer is quite rich even on its own. Be careful not to fill up on it!!!

North Mississippi All-Stars Mini Bio

Hailing from South Memphis in northern Mississippi, the group is centered around brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson, sons of legendary producer, artist, and character actor Jim Dickinson. They have also welcomed Gary Burnside, son of fellow living blues legend R.L. Burnside, to form the group today. Having spent much of their time alongside their fathers, they were exposed to various production and recording environments, and naturally learned the great music-making process. They have worked with artists such as The Replacements, Beck, Mojo Nixon, Willie DeVille, Shawn Lane, and rockabilly legend Billy Lee Riley.

Over the past few years, the North Mississippi Allstars have transformed into a formidable touring unit, playing more than 150 shows a year. On tour, they have shared the stage with bands such as The Scrarel Nut Zippers, Galactic, Gov Mule, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and Medeskie Martin & Wood.
