“SERVICE, the new band from Russell Simins (best known as the drummer for the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion), is an urgent, howling, earnest rock and roll force, steadily cementing their reputation as a great live band. Simins, at the helm from behind the kit, produces as well as shares the songwriting duties with iconic front person, Jilly Weiss. Other core member & guitar wiz, Mitch Geisinger, completes the band’s wild sound. SERVICE just released their debut album, Drag Me (Let’s Pretend), and the buzz has been steadily growing. Tinnitist described Drag Me as “a Sermonstrously great set of darkly intense post-punk [songs] propelled by Russell’s groovy beats, laced with his multi-layered production, and topped with Jilly’s otherworldly vocals,” and more concisely, as “a total motherfucker.” Brooklyn Vegan described their first single, “Hey,” as “a fiery, ’90s-style ripper that features big riffing, a bashing beat and a powerhouse vocal from Weiss.” The band describes their sound as “post-punk then punk again”, but there’s more going on here. It’s Psychedelic Baby Magazine writes, “There’s a million tiny moments to love on this record. It’s one you could return to and hear something different with each listen.” This is a band you need to experience live – a guitar assault over hard grooving beats and giant choruses. As SERVICE heads out to play small clubs across the country this summer and fall, you’ll want to catch them before they’re playing bigger rooms.”
