“Getting caught in the vortex of a Jon Spencer performance is an exhilarating and life affirming experience. The sheer volume and frenetic energy lifts roofs and spirits in equal measure. It’s the hottest day of the year, and in the intimate confines of The Fleece, Jon is testifying, tearing into the world and its inadequacies like a man possessed. He has a couple of barn burning, badass, wunderkinds to help him do it.”

Kendall Wind is twenty-something years old and has been playing bass for sixteen of them. She augments Jon Spencer’s sound by playing way up the fret board at the top of the neck, with the fuzz pedal on and the strings being double stopped to create two note chords, the bass sounds like a baritone guitar. This is just one aspect of what Kendall brings to the band: she also plays lightning fast funktastic blues bass. Highly imaginative walking scales are slammed headfirst into textbook garage thrash. A joy to behold.

Spider Bowman pounds the living daylights out of his kit. He’s also a natural showman, spinning sticks in the middle of the maelstrom or playing with one arm behind his back while locking in the beat with the other hand and his feet. – Pete Harvey / LouderThanWar.com
