1998: The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – Roseland Ballroom, New York City, NY, US
w/ Alex Chilton

“JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION AND ALEX CHILTON, Roseland, 239 West 52d Street, Manhattan, (212) 247-0200. Fans of New York’s favorite blues-belting skinny white hipster guy already know he can command a large stage, since Mr. Spencer and his band devastated the crowd at last year’s Tibet Freedom Festival. They should heat up this old ballroom to the boiling point. More unpredictable will be the opening set by Alex Chilton, who has experienced pop stardom and cult adulation but has grown accustomed to spinning out lost pop and rhythm-and-blues chestnuts for small audiences used to getting their shouted requests played. If he can make Roseland feel like Maxwell’s, the famously intimate club where he headlines (without the Blues Explosion) the next night, Mr. Chilton will have pulled off a miracle. The Roseland show is tomorrow night at 7:30; tickets are $16 in advance, $17.50 tomorrow. Alex Chilton plays Maxwell’s on Sunday night at 9; tickets are $12 (Powers).” – New York Times preview

1998: The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – Trocadero, Philadelphia, PA, US

2009: Mike Edison Space Liberation Army – Lakeside, New York City, NY, US
w/ The Lost Crusaders

“Edison ranted and railed, occasionally punching a soul organ riff on his Nord Electro or lashing at his theremin to emphasize a point. Although drinking what looked to be straight bourbon, he didn’t miss a beat, only occasionally referring to a cheat sheet as he gleefully recounted tales from a booze-and-drug-soaked past or savaged the right wing, Jello Biafra style as the band snaked along behind him.” – Lucid Culture
