“His 45-minute set was minimalist and coarse, unrefined rock with lurching rhythms and awkward spaces between notes, topped with Spencer’s hallmark affected yelps.”

“Spencer’s guitar was all jagged skronk. What’s best described as “miscellaneous percussion” was played on an empty automobile gas tank and, yes, a trash can. It’s surely the type of anti-virtuoso racket that’s harder to play than it looks.” – John Serba / localspins.com

Honeymoon Killers – Hung Far Low: Bang Records Reissue

Honeymoon Killers – Hung Far Low will be reissued on vinyl by Bang Records.

Pre-Order here: https://www.munsterama.com/index.php?mode=spot&skuid=39994

“Hung Far Low” is the fifth and final studio album by New York noise rock band The Honeymoon Killers, originally released in 1991 and is now remastered in order to achieve the extreme sound desired for this band. The Honeymoon Killers recorded this album picking up 2/3 of the nascent Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and it meant a Sonic evolution to the band in the way to get the original Honeymoon Killers sound adding slicks of Pussy Galore and The Blues Explosion. Artwork revised and completed by Pauline Teel (Big City Stompers). The Band: Jerry Teel – guitar, harmonica, vocals (The Chrome Cranks, Knoxville Girls, Big City Stompers, etc). Jon Spencer – guitar (Blues Explosion, Pussy Galore, Five Dollar Priest, etc). Russell Simins – drums (Blues Explosion, etc). Lisa Wells – bass.”

2016: Jon Spencer – The Bells: A Daylong Celebration of Lou Reed – Lincoln Center, New York City, NY, US

Jon Spencer performed Venus In Furs with the house band and the song ended with him whipping the guitar with his belt.

Other artists include: a house band with Don Fleming, Sal Maida, Kenny Margolis, Lee Ranaldo, Steve Shelley, and Matt Sweeney with guest singers: Joanaspolicewoman, David Johansen, Lenny Kaye, Jesse Malin, Kembra Pfahler, Felice Rosser, Harper Simon, Bush Tetras, JG Thirlwell, and Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.

“Post-punk avant-scuzz-rock classicist Jon Spencer, rocking shades and dressed head to toe in black, was a dead ringer for 1966 Lou, capping a perfect “Venus in Furs” by laying his guitar on the stage, removing his black leather belt, and flogging it while the amps howled. “That’s how it’s done,” said MC and producer Don Fleming glowingly.” – Rolling Stone
