“Self-described “purveyors of fine filth”. Divinely insidious. Obscenely cool. Boss Hog is the invention of Cristina Martinez and Jonathan Spencer, a pair Britain’s Melody Maker cites as “responsible for some of the meanest and most inventive vinyl coming out of the States.”
The band’s roots go back to the influential sleaze-punk product Pussy Galore, of which both Martinez and Spencer were members. Since 1989, the pair have anchored the ever-changing line-up of Boss Hog; Martinez as lead vocalist, Spencer as lead guitarist (he also fronts the highly-touted Jon Spencer Blues Explosion). 1993’s acclaimed Girl+ was the first release from Boss Hog’s current line-up, which includes bassist Jens Jurgensen and drummer Hollis Queens.
Produced by Jonathan Spencer and Steve Fisk and reduced by Cristina Martinez, their eponymously-titled DGC debut mixes punk rock anthems, searing, sneering blues, soulful croonings, and angst noise rhythms in a wild carnival of emotion.
Boss Hog bring you perhaps their finest filth yet.”
