Japanese only live album limited to 2000 copies in standard album sleeve with anti-static inner sleeve.
The album is billed as “Pussy Galore: Live in Europa” where it is advertised along with Penetration in The Centerfold on a poster for Pussy Galore show at Live Inn, Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan on 12 September 1987. The Audio-source would appear to have been taken from a cassette as the tracks tend to ‘wobble’. Although the sound quality varies it is generally fairly poor, of course, a great document of what exactly what Pussy Galore were but for a higher fidelity example of the band live start with Pussy Galore: Live In The Red . The songs appear to be edited together, each one starts and ends abruptly and the quality varies to such a degree that it seems unlikey that the tracks were recorded at the same time on the same equiptment. The fact that the sleeve carries the credit “Live Sound: Peter Arsenault. Theo Van Een Bergen or Joe.” would also suggest that there’s more than one source for these tracks. Even though the label uses the artwork from the Manchester show and it is sometimes considered to be a live LP from the gig the tracks on side B are probably culled from different show/s. The Manchester Boardwalk gig was reviewed in an issue of the Melody Maker dated 5 March 1988. Side A starts with “Good evening Manchester, it is Friday night, this is savage, savage amusement, with Pussy Fucking Galore” Side B is titled “More Shit From Other Places” starts with a member of the audience shouting “The Rolling Stones were never like this baby” (taken from the gig at Duchess of York, Leeds, UK (14 February 1988)). Supernatural Organization released the Japanese issues of Dial ‘M’ For Motherfucker, Sugarshit Sharp, This Friday Night Only and a Pussy Galore split single with Black Snakes. The pin-up image used on the cover is a 1979 image by Aslan (Alain Gourdon). Text Below From a Review of the Manchester Boardwalk show:
The cover features no tracklisting, the titles given above are an attempt to name all the tracks (with the gaps filled in by Peter / Arne). |
