“The charity protest set Battle Hymns starts at No. 9 (with slightly more than 1,000 copies sold in the week ending Jan. 26, according to Nielsen Music) and the patriotic Make America Great Again: Greatest Songs of the U.S.A. enters at No. 15, with just under 1,000.

Both albums were released Jan. 20, Inauguration Day. Battle Hymns was spearheaded by Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss of the band Quasi and “created in direct response to the current political situation in the U.S.,” according to the band’s website

The title features previously unreleased music from Stephen Malkmus, Jon Spencer and Carrie Brownstein, among others. Battle Hymns was offered in a pay-what-you-want scheme, where the suggested price was $20. (Only sales of the album at $3.49 or above were counted as sales, according to Billboard and Nielsen’s pricing policy.

All proceeds from the album will be divided equally among Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union and 350.org. On Jan. 31, Quasi tweeted that the album had raised over $30,000.”
